The Perfume Shop is turning 30! And to mark this incredible milestone, we’re shining a spotlight on the fragrances (original or their modern-day counterparts) which are, or would be, celebrating 30 years on our shelves! Balloons and birthday cake at the ready…
Angel by Mugler
Where do we even start with the iconic Angel Eau de Parfum by MUGLER? It’s celestial star-shaped bottle makes it one of the most visually appealing bottles on our shelves, plus, did you know Angel is considered the first-ever gourmand perfume? This means it contains mouth-watering notes, good enough to eat such as honey, caramel, praline and vanilla. It is adored today as much as it was when it was released in 1992, and if we can, we’ll be wearing Angel for another 30 years!
What happens when floral notes meet the aroma of freshwater? You get the timelessL’eau D’Issy Eau de Toilette by Issy Miyake. Not only was it Issy Miyake’s first fragrance, when released in 1992, but it was the first aquatic floral fragrance ever. The beautifully simplistic fragrance combines rose and lotus in the top notes, a stunning lily accord and fresh flowers in the heart before drying down to a sensual woody base. It has the makings of a true classic!
Take a step back in time and breath in the nostalgia with Safari Eau de Toilette by Ralph Lauren. The exquisite scent, released in 1992, is made for wearing during laid-back afternoons; it’s mature, comforting and very gentleman-like with heaps of aromatic and woody notes. Make no mistake; this fragrance is a gem! And the female counterpart, Safari Eau de Parfum, is just as memorable with its elegant vintage appeal.
Perfumes come and go, and while some may not be around to celebrate their 30th birthday, it doesn’t mean they have been forgotten! In 1992, Dolce & Gabbana released their namesake scent, Dolce & Gabbana (often referred to as the ‘red cap’) and it is still loved and celebrated today by those who are lucky enough to get their hands on an elusive bottle. So, while the OG scent has been discontinued, it doesn’t mean we can’t show it some love on what would have been its 30th b-day! If you’re into the D&G vibe, then they have plenty more options to pique your interests, such as the bright and care-free Light Blue Eau de Toilette.
Another scent that has stepped aside to give newer perfume its time in the spotlight is Gio by Giorgio Armani. On what would have been its 30th year on our shelves, why not celebrate its legacy by opting for Si Passione by Armani instead? Both fruity-floral fragrances share the same notes of red rose, jasmine, cedar and vanilla; if you loved Gio back in the 90s, who knows Si Passione may be the new signature scent you’ve been looking for?
Many masterpiece scents were created in the early 90s, and it may be no surprise to fragrance fans that Egoiste Cologne Concentree and Chanel Platinum Egoistefall comfortably into that category. While it’s a little trickier to get your hands on the Cologne version these days, the clean, woody aroma of Chanel Platinum Egoiste is still available at The Perfume Shop. The standout scent has ‘masculine elegance’ written all over it, and one to try (and fall immediately in love with) if you haven’t already!
The Opium range by Yves Saint Laurent is legendary. The original amber-spicy fragrance,Opium, was released back in 1977, but Yves Saint Laurent didn’t stop there. In 1992 a softer, rounder version of the original, Opium Secret de Parfum, burst onto the scenes and wow – it was a beauty! While this gem is no longer available, a reformulated version of the original Opium is still on our shelves and as popular today as ever!
When it comes to Guerlain, you can count on them to create scents of pure class with outstanding charm and longevity. While Heritage was released in 1992 and will be celebrating its third decade this year in the ‘utterly flawless fragrance’ hall of fame, we’d love to draw your attention toL’Homme Ideal Eau de Parfum by Guerlain too. If you are a fan of Heritage and its refined amber-woody notes but want something on the lighter side – then L’Homme Ideal Eau de Parfum is the one for you.
Chloe Narcisse by Chloe
Roll up, roll up and smell the roses with Chloe. Anyone who knows and wears fragrances from the French perfume powerhouse will know that the rose lies at the heart of their perfumes. While Chloe Narcisse, which was released 30 years ago, is no longer around, Chloe continues to pay homage to the beautiful, feminine rose with Chloe Eau deToilette, which is available today.
