A few years ago, K-Beauty burst onto the mainstream Western markets in a flurry of sheet masks, 10-step skincare routines, and tutorials on how to achieve glass-like skin. K-Beauty is constantly evolving and adapting, but one thing has always stayed true is that a K-Beauty skincare routine should be savoured, enjoyed and completed using only the best products for your complexion.
At The Perfume Shop, we love the mindset behind K-Beauty skincare rituals, and today we’re sharing the Korean beauty regimes and trends that promise to transform the skin!
Effective Minimalism
While the 10 - step skincare routine was once favoured, many K-Beauty followers, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, are now saying goodbye to the long processes and replacing them with a more minimal approach using innovative skincare backed by science. The effective minimalism approach focuses on clean and simple products, that reduces waste and makes it much easier to customise to your own skincare needs. To build your own routine, look out for products with a highly effective hero ingredient that targets your skin concerns.

Game-changing ingredients
As well as tried and tested beauty regimes, we also have K-Beauty to thank for introducing us to some seriously under-the-radar, yet highly effective, skincare ingredients.
Snail mucin
One of the most memorable has to be snail mucin, aka snail slime. Although it doesn’t sound too appealing, the benefits way outbalances any initial scepticism! Snail mucin, which is the key ingredient in Mizon’s superb skincare collection, is packed full of hyaluronic peptides for hydrated skin and exfoliating alpha-hydroxy acids for a brighter complexion! Doesn’t sound too bad now, does it?
Cica
The ingredient we have our eyes on right now is Cica, or Centella Asiatica to give it its full name. Cica isn’t a ‘new’ ingredient, in fact, it has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries and has been a staple in Korean skincare for many years. Although, we are just now waking up to its incredible features! It is highly prized for its soothing, hydrating, and healing properties, plus it’s rich in antioxidants (to protect the skin) and it can help fight the signs of ageing. We’ll be adding this star ingredient to our regime, pronto!

Mirror Skin
In previous years, Korean beauty experts let us in on the secret of ‘glass-like skin’ where your skin is so clear and healthy, it looks as smooth as glass. Now, the trend has moved on slightly to ‘mirror skin’ - where the complexion is so glowy, it’s almost reflective! This skin-transforming trend can be achieved using complexion brightening ingredients like niacinamide, which not only plumps the skin but also minimises the appearance of pores and dark spots.
